UDMPU Process:  Emergency Budget Meeting

This a reminder about the

Emergency Membership Meeting

Tuesday  December 7

12:45 – 2 PM

Life Science 115

There may be confusion about the process.  This meeting is primarily informational. First,  the meeting will begin with a presentation from the Administration officials: VP for Finance, Bill Johnson, AVP Barbara Schirmer and Associate VP for HR Steve Nelson.  They will outline the current budget crisis facing the University and the various alternatives available. There will be opportunity for questions and comments by the membership.

Second, there will be a report from our Professional Negotiating Committee, which will suggest a possible solution to the problem.   Please note that nothing has been agreed to, even tentatively, by the PNC.   The purpose of this report is to inform the membership of where we are, and to get feedback.

If the membership does not approve of this approach, the PNC will obviously go back to the drawing board.

If the membership is supportive of the general approach of the PNC, then the PNC will return to the bargaining table to complete the negotiating process on Thursday. Any amendments to the contract would be submitted to the Union Board for review at a Special Meeting on Thursday.  The recommendations of the PNC and the Board would be sent to the membership.  No changes to the contractually mandated provisions can become effective until after they are approved by a referendum vote of the entire members.  A majority of the entire membership is required for passage.
